Respite Kits

Respite Kits

"These kits provide the necessities to get clean and feel human. With the welcoming notes and prayers, they are also a means by which we remind those in crisis thatEl Amor Sana, Love Heals." - Becca Stevens, Thistle Farms Founder

When families and individuals seek asylum at the US/Mexico border, The Humanitarian Respite Center, in McAllen Texas, is the first place where they will feel truly welcomed. It is where they are fed and can rest. They can take a shower, make a phone call to a loved one, get clean clothes. It is where they complete one long journey and begin another.

Thistle Farms, a nonprofit that employs survivors of trafficking, prostitution and addiction, along with volunteers and donors throughout the country, is creating respite kits for these travelers to take on their next journey. These kits, bearing messages of love as well as basic hygiene supplies, will be distributed by The Humanitarian Respite Center to more than 1,000 families and individuals who have been released from detention and have entered the asylum process.

We invite you send a message of welcome and love by sponsoring one or more Respite Kits. The Thistle Farms products in the kit are created to promote wellness and healing.

A $25.00 gift will cover all supplies and the shipping cost to Texas. Each Respite Kit, pictured above, contains:

  • Thistle Farms Body Wash, Lotion, and Lip Balm ( Shave Gel added for men's kits)
  • Comb, and Travel-size Deodorant, Toothbrush, and Toothpaste
  • Kit is enclosed in a Love Heals Every Body drawstring bag
Your donation will help asylum seekers AND the survivors of Thistle Farms.

The Humanitarian Respite Center, pictured above, is overseen by Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley and serves families in crisis. The center provides a place for the countless men, women, children, and infant refugees to rest, be fed and receive medicine and other supplies, before continuing on their journey.

Thistle Farms is a nonprofit whose mission is to heal, empower, and employ women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. We provide safe and supportive housing, the opportunity for economic independence, and a strong community of advocates and partners. We believe that in the end, love is the most powerful force for change in the world.
