Systems of Oppression Feed
Systems of Prostitution
Institutions such as foster care, incarceration, mental healthcare, and social services all suffer from breakdowns in implementation and application.
These systems are frequently underfunded or over depended on as alternatives to populations who, generally, are already at a disadvantage.
Societal systems embolden these institutional systems through racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, antisemitism, and classism.
Without intensive policy work to increase equity, decrease exclusion, and reinforce resiliency, these populations will continue to experience exploitation at dramatically disproportionate levels.
Poverty. Addiction. Marginalization. Violence.
Common and contributing factors of vulnerability.
Overcoming The Systems
At Thistle Farms, we do not believe these systems are inevitable and stand against their normalization by supporting initiatives such as:
Reducing Root Factors to Vulnerability. Prevention Education. Community Building. Healthy Relationship Education. Sex Education. Anti-Discrimination Laws. Access to Services. Education and Employment Opportunities.
