Four Pillars + Community

A Letter from CEO, Tasha Kennard

At Thistle Farms, people often ask what makes our model work.

The answer isn’t a single program or initiative. It’s the way everything connects.

We are guided by four pillars—House, Heal, Employ, and Respond—and each one is essential. Alone, they are meaningful. Together, they create a pathway that is strong enough to support long-term recovery, stability, and independence.

And none of it happens in isolation.

This work is powered by a community—graduates, partners, donors, customers, and advocates—who believe, as we do, that every woman deserves not just a second chance, but a real opportunity to build a life she chooses.

House: A Place to Begin Again

Healing starts with safety.

Our residential program offers women a place to land—a home where they can exhale, often for the first time in years. But housing is more than a roof. It is the foundation for everything that follows. Without it, stability is nearly impossible.

Through our campus and expanding housing efforts, we are committed to ensuring that women not only have a place to begin, but a place to continue as they transition into independent living.

Heal: The Work of Restoration

Healing is not linear. It is layered, personal, and ongoing.

At Thistle Farms, we provide trauma-informed care, therapeutic and wellness programming, and a community rooted in love. But what makes healing possible here is not just the services—it’s the relationships. It’s the consistency of people showing up, day after day, offering both compassion and accountability.

We don’t rush the process. We honor it.

Employ: Dignity Through Work

Employment is where so much transformation becomes tangible.

Through our justice enterprise operations, women gain more than a job—they gain skills, confidence, and a sense of ownership over their future. From manufacturing and logistics to retail and customer experience, our enterprises are designed to provide meaningful, supportive employment.

But our commitment doesn’t stop with residents and graduates.

We are intentionally expanding access to job training, learning and development, and employment opportunities for individuals in recovery across our broader community. Because the need is greater than any one program, and the impact is stronger when we open doors wider.

Work is not just about income. It is about dignity. It is about belonging. It is about knowing you have something valuable to contribute—and being given the opportunity to do so.

Respond: Meeting the Moment

The realities of trafficking, addiction, and exploitation are constantly evolving. Our response must evolve, too.

Through outreach, partnerships, and advocacy, Thistle Farms works to meet women where they are and respond to emerging needs in our community. Whether it’s supporting frontline organizations, collaborating with systems partners, or expanding access to care, this pillar ensures we are not standing still.

We are listening. We are learning. And we are acting.

A Model Fueled by Community

None of these pillars stand on their own—and neither do we.

Our community partners bring expertise, collaboration, and shared commitment. Our volunteers and donors provide the resources to grow and sustain this work. Our customers fuel our justice enterprises, turning everyday purchases into pathways for healing and employment.

Together, they make it possible for Thistle Farms to offer not just programs, but a continuum of care that reaches far beyond Nashville.

They make it possible for us to invest in people—not just during a two-year program, but for the long haul.

More Than a Model—A Movement

What we are building at Thistle Farms is more than a set of services. It is a living, breathing community rooted in the belief that love, when put into action, can transform lives.

House. Heal. Employ. Respond.

Four pillars that hold up not just an organization, but a promise—that every woman who walks through our doors, and every individual in recovery in our community, has a place to belong, to grow, and to thrive.

And that is work worth investing in.
