Thistle Farms Global: Shared Trade

Thistle Farms Global: Shared Trade

Birthed in collaboration, Thistle Farms Global: Shared Trade: embodies the growing movement to build economic freedom in the lives of marginalized women around the world. Thistle Farms Global, an international marketplace, connects women producers directly to customers by distributing and selling their products.

In 2012, Becca Stevens, founder of Thistle Farms, gathered together with other leaders at the Greenbelt Festival in the UK. Through their discussions, the idea of Thistle Farms Global was born to combat the injustice inherent in the global market value chain.

And so, a community of social enterprise leaders and activists began working together with one vision:

to bridge the gap to bring women together in a movement for economic freedom.

By connecting women from differing places and histories to the broader market, Shared Trade increases the share of profit for women survivors of addiction, trafficking, violence and extreme poverty. Thistle Farms Global accomplishes its mission through partnering with women social enterprises making handmade goods, creating a global community of shared learning, and paying a higher percentage for products. Through collaboration with Thistle Farms Global, partners gain access to a network of like-minded organizations and benefit from being part of a larger community. With the support and sales of Thistle Farms Global, partner enterprises can hi re more women, increase wages, and reinvest in higher quality production.

We have 18  social enterprise partnersfrom 10 countries on 5 continents who collectively employ over 1,000 women. Thistle Farms Global social enterprise partners offer women a space to experience economic opportunity and healing community.

As Becca says, “We are acting globally so women experience freedom locally.”
