Thistle Thursday Is Back!

Thistle Thursday Is Back!

We are so excited about our first Thistle Thursday of the year! We are even more excited about the performers, Jann Arden and Jill & Kate. Here's a little bit about the amazing women you will get to see perform if you stop by!

Jann Arden

Jann is a Canadian born, singer, songwriter, broadcaster and author.  This much celebrated multi-platinum, award winning artist catapulted onto the Canadian music scene in 1993 with the release of her debut album "Time For Mercy" featuring the hit single,” I Would Die For You.”  A year later with "Living Under June", she would have her career break out hit, “Insensitive” that would solidify her position in the music world.

Whether she is captivating audiences with her heartfelt music, entertaining them with her quick wit or sharing her written word in a boldly honest voice Jann Arden is a Canadian original a brilliant multi-dimensional talent, and we are happy to have her here at the Thistle Stop Café.

Jill & Kate

Driven by their own sensitive, well-rendered tunes and sterling vocal harmonies, Jill and Kate are a dynamic singing and songwriting duo with the pipes, poise, and personalities necessary to build an explosive career in their home base of Nashville, Tennessee. While Jill and Kate are best known as former background singers for award-winning vocalist, Kelly Clarkson, Jill Pickering and Kate Rapier have emerged from the background to become a forefronting pair. We are sure the pair will receive a huge hometown welcome when they step on the stage for Thistle Thursday on February 4!

If you haven’t made it out for our Thistle Thursdays yet, you don’t know what you are missing. Come out and show your support for a great cause, and listen to some great music. We will see you there!

A 2003 Thistle Farms graduate, and now member of Thistle Farms’ Board of Directors, Ericka Monroe has a clear message for women coming into Thistle Farms: You can do it. In 2001, this is the message she received from Becca Stevens, and it has guided her ever since.  Ericka came to the program having spent four years on the streets. She was sure she wouldn’t stay, but, as she got to know the women around her, she realized there was something different here.

From the Streets to Accounts Manager: Chelle is Living Proof

by Melanie Reitz October 12, 2016

The growth Thistle Farms has enjoyed in the last several years has kept Chelle Waller, survivor-leader and Accounts Manager, very busy. As a 2005 graduate, Chelle has seen a great deal of change since she first began. “At one time, we were only about 5 women working here, just at one little table,” Chelle recalls. Now, Chelle manages the accounts payable process for a company with a $4 million budget.

We Are Not Alone: A Blog from Becca

by Becca Stevens September 19, 2016

On Thistle Farm's third trip to visit the Ikirezi community, Nicholas told me that our ecommerce partnership was important, not just because of the added economic value, but because it was a reminder that he wasn’t alone in this work. What he meant was that despite the overwhelming obstacles one faces in justice work out in the fields, we can overcome our times of loneliness and heartbreak if we work together.
